The country lost a great person, academician, the pioneer of Uzbek space
activities – Dr. Shavkat Ahadovich Vahidov
Recently the country lost a great person, who was the father of the
space industry and space education of Uzbekistan – Dr. Shavkat
Vahidov. He spent whole his live being very active in the Soviet
space activities, starting from the Lunar and planetary missions,
ending up with the creation of a popular International Aerospace
Summer School. He was not only a scientist, but also a great person,
who created a nice background for a future space generation. He was full of energy and
inspiration. Even if he is gone, he will be in our hearts forever. We hope that his thoughts
and ideas will be further developed and continued by the future generation.
XX-International Aerospace School – 2008
July 25th was a beautiful day which started by the opening ceremony of XX International Aerospace Summer School which took place in the capital of Uzbekistan organized by Dr.
Sh. Vahidov. This year was officially called the
year of young generation. The school itself took
place in the Parkent region of Uzbekistan and
was supported by the Ministry of Education,
various research institutions, Embassy of Russian
Federation, cultural centers of the country and
several others.
For this 20th Anniversary the School was honored by the presence of Russian astronaut Mr.
Salijan Sharipov and the leading specialist of Space Operations Center Mr. Aleksandr Larin.
Also, a very nice surprise was prepared by the “Uzkinochronics” with the nice documentary
about the pilot-instructor Mr. Saidazimov who also delivered a speech about the aerospace
education of a young generation in Uzbekistan. Many pupils and students participated in the
Summer School and were excited by rocket modeling activities, projects, lectures and other
motivating scientific activities.
Uzbekistan geology welcomes space technologies
The utilization of space technologies today is the important figure of merit for the country. In
our country this is one of the first priorities in the creation of the information field in the near
future and the perspective planning
of the natural resources,
telecommunications, navigation,
transportation and ecological
monitoring.
In Uzbekistan, satellite remote
sensing is one of the main sources of
geological monitoring. In this sense,
satellite data help to raise the
efficiency of the activities. The color
and the spectrum of the mountains and the relief make a big difference. From space it is very
easy to see all those differences and therefore make a certain scientific and applied decisions.
Remote Sensing and Geo-information Center supplies not only the satellite images, but also
various products related to remote sensing. Therefore, we need geology! Geology needs
space!
Uzbekistan signs agreement with Russian Federation
Russia and Uzbekistan signed a collaboration agreement in the area of peaceful utilization of
the outer space. As the result scientific and applied areas have been considered.
The scientific program includes the activities to support the space measurement facilities –
Maidanak, which is in Samarkand region and development of radio astronomical observatory
on the high altitude mountain - Plato Suffa. The satellite ground station will be deployed,
including a computer system for scientific data collection.
The applied space activities will include the development of the satellite data reception and
processing centers as well as the utilization of a satellite navigation and space monitoring
centers, mapping, communication and other areas of space technology
